Some of you may have seen my tutorial on dress repurposing at Blue Cricket Design a while back.
But for those of you who missed it, here it is:
I have several dresses in my closet that I love [at least in theory].
But I never wear them because they are either too fancy for everyday use,
Or they've become too short,
Or they have a busted zipper.
The latter 2 reasons is what prompted me to repurpose the following dress into cute [and wearable] skirt:

And it was so easy!
You can do it too.
Materials Needed:
- A dress that you want to recycle
- Scissors
- Pins
- Zipper [I used a 7 inch Polyester zipper]
- Sewing Machine
- Thread
First, I cut off the top half of the dress.
I figured out how long I would like the skirt to be in the end,
and cut the dress about an inch above that:

I cut straight through that wretched zipper
[Hindsight note: don't use your good fabric scissors!]
So it was easy to rip the rest of the zipper right out:

Then, I pinned in a shorter zipper [I used a 7 inch one]:

And I sewed the zipper into the
The only thing left to do was hem the top.
Fold over the excess at the top
[folded mine about 3/4 inch]
And pin it:

Sew around the waist:

And voila!
My broken-zippered dress is now a cute, summery [and wearable] skirt:
