Who Wants An Old Door Anyway?

I do!

It all started when my friend Lauren and I were at this amazing antique and craft mall called " The Barn."


I saw an old, beat up door and it was love at first sight.
It's beauty was in the fact that it had be painted with several layers of different colored paint
and had been weathered so as to make the paint peel
and the various colors pop through...
Bold colors like turquoise, red, tan... yum :]

But I couldn't buy it because
[aside from the fact that it cost an obscene amount of money], it already had a "sold" sticker on it.

Thus began my relentless search for a door that I could beat up.

As luck would have it,
I stumbled across a free paneled door on craigslist a few weeks ago!

She came to me in pristine condition:


But she didn't stay that way for long! First I painted her a dark brown muddy color:


I'll admit that I was sloppy...
knowing that I was just going to distress her in the end!

Then a touch of scarlet:


Some lovely turquoise accent:


And if you've been following my blog for any time,
you can guess what I finished with...
Yep, that robin's egg blue paint that I've used on the piano
and practically everything else in my house!
[Though it looks white in this first picture... sorry!]


And now for my favorite part:
I distressed it!


I sanded it, making sure that all those colors...
white, mud, scarlet, turquoise, and robin's egg blue...
popped through in different spots.

And then the hubs and I took turns whacking and scraping it with the back of the hammer.
[Not gonna lie- really fun!]


I LOVE how it turned out!

Then I had a hard time trying to decide what to do with it.
Remember those frames that I painted and distressed at the mid-point of our stairs?
I decided to work the door into that.

For some reason,
I actually found the door more charming upside down:


I hung one of those pictures onto it and set it in the corner of the landing:
