Easy Peasy Ruffle Scarf... [TUTORIAL]

I love the ruffle scarfs that are in style right now.
But I can't bring myself to spend $25 or more
on a long strip of fabric...
No matter HOW ruffly it is.

Luckily, it's ridiculously easy to make one.
I didn't want to worry with hemming it,
so I used a knit fabric that wouldn't ravel.

[Make sure that you cut the fabric a foot longer
than you want it to be in the end...
The ruffles will make it shorten.]

Then, with elastic thread in my bobbin,
I sewed 5 lines through the length of the fabric:

I ironed it to make the elastic shrink...

The whole thing took about 5 minutes,
and resulted in this:

It would make a lovely [and easy!] handmade Christmas gift!

I'm linking to these parties.

what a great idea to use the stretchy thread for it to shrink! I also made a ruffle scarf from fleece (because I didn't want to mess with a hem either). Ruffles=FUN

You're so brilliant, Mandy, but that elastic thread mocks me and hates me when put into my machine. . .so this is one I'm not so willing try, lol.

I recently had the same great idea and used some green knit. How wide did you make yours? I don't think I made mine wide enough. And now I'm thinking about sewing a few more lines.. I only did two. Yours looks fabulous :)
