Puppet Theater [Kids Can Do]

I got to babysit some sweet girls from our church a few weeks ago...
And, of course, I couldn't help but plan a fun craft for us to do!

We ended up making this puppet theater:

It was really easy, and the girls were able to do most of it themselves.

MATERIALS:
One of those poster boards that are used for science fair projects:

Paint
Paint Brushes
Masking Tape
Stencils [optional]
Small Piece of Fabric
Dowel Rod
Duct Tape
Hot Glue Gun
Socks
Googley Eyes
Other Puppet Decorations

PREPARATION:
Before the children are involved, cut out a large rectangle in the top of the middle panel of the board and two windows on the right and left side using an X-acto knife.

INSTRUCTIONS:
To help the children "plan" their project, apply masking tape in lines on the cardboard so that there are clear "areas" for the children to paint:

Have each child design a puppet for their show...
Googley eyes, feathers, sequins, yarn, and buttons are all great supplies to have on hand for this.
Let them assemble their puppets, and then you can attach the pieces for them with hot glue:

Hot glue two strips of fabric to the dowel rod [make sure you do this loosely so that the curtains can open and close], and then secure it across the top of the puppet theater opening:

Let the children put on a puppet show for you!

I'm linking to these parties.
