Yesterday I demonstrated the basic chain stitch...
And we're going to use that today to make this necklace:

Materials Needed:
Yarn [I recommend Simply Soft]
Crochet Needle [I recommend size J]
Scissors
Start by chaining 3 chains of yarn, each 20 feet long [yes, I know that's long... but if you're new to crocheting this is a great way to master chaining!]

Tie the chains together on one end, and braid the chains together:

Wrap the braided yarn into loops... create a layered effect by varying the size of the loops:

Wrap the start/end of the loops with yarn like so and tie it off:

And that's it... a fun, chunky layer necklace:

Be sure to check out Kimberly's yarn post too:

Love it!
Okay, I got my yarn and my needle yesterday. I'm going to tackle chaining tonight! :)
I chained last night- I just gotta work on not twisting it as I go.
I am def. gonna make this!
Okay, now are the chains braided totally or just the part at the top. The chains don't look braided to me.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! I could totally do this! And I'm going to, too... just you wait.
Mandy, it's beautiful!
Hey- this is one neat blog! Glad I found you! Love your creations and your way of explaining stuff.
ohmigoodness!!! How pretty!!! I was looking at your blog yesterday morning and I was all "huh!! That looks so neat! I may have to try that!" Then last night while I was just drifting off to dreamland I thought "I may have to stop by Joann's to pick up some pretty yarn to try Mandy's tutorial!!" So I think Joann's is on today's to-do list!!! :)
