Tuesday Tutorial: Peacock Feather Earrings

I've been in love with peacock feather earrings for a while now, but I can never seem to find any that tickle my fancy just right. They're either too big or small or have weird beading in them... And I just wanted something simple. So (you know me) I decided to make my own.





Materials Needed:
Peacock Feathers (2)
Scissors
Thin String (I used crochet thread)
Earring Bases (the dangly kind)
Mod Podge



I bought the feathers at Hobby Lobby- two for $2.49:



But they come WAY too long:



So you probably want to cut them to reasonable lengths:



And then trim around the rounded part of the feather too:



It took some trial and error to find the length I was looking for... here's my first attempt- cute, but still too long for my taste:



This is how trimmed they were in the end:



Then, I cut a small amount of thread and strung it through the earrings:



I laid the end of the feather in between the two ends of the string like so:



I added just a bit of mod podge to make absolutey sure that the feather's not going to fall off. (I used the core of the extra peacock feather I cut off as the "toothpick" for applying mod podge)



And then I wrapped another piece of string around the feather and strings and secured it with a knot (that I then secured with a drop of mod podge):



Do the same thing for the other side, and then enjoy wearing your peacock feathers:
